Types of Therapy
I recognise the importance of an individualised approach, understanding that each person's journey is unique. I focus on collaborating with you to tailor our sessions to meet your needs and goals. Drawing from a pluralistic perspective, I am dedicated to finding the most effective solution that resonates with you.
Navigating the multitude of therapeutic modalities can be overwhelming, especially for those new to the field. To offer clarity and transparency, I've highlighted below the main approaches I utilise in my practice in simple terms. These approaches serve as reference points to help you better understand the various methods we may explore during our sessions.
If you have specific preferences regarding how you'd like to approach therapy, or if there's a particular therapeutic method you're curious about or would like to explore further, please feel free to share your thoughts. I'm here to listen and discuss any ideas you have regarding our therapeutic journey together.
Existential Therapy
The existential approach is about exploring life's big questions and finding meaning in your existence. I’ll aim to help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings. Instead of focusing on specific problems, existential therapy delves into your core beliefs, values, and fears, helping you confront the realities of life and death. I will encourage you to reflect on your choices, take responsibility for your actions, and embrace your freedom to create a meaningful life. It's a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, where you'll explore what it means to be alive and find purpose in the face of life's uncertainties.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is like having a coach for your mind. It's all about understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected and learning practical strategies to change unhelpful patterns. I will help you identify negative thought patterns that might be causing you distress and teach you how to challenge and change them. You'll also learn new ways of coping with difficult emotions and situations, developing skills to manage stress, anxiety, or depression more effectively. CBT is a hands-on approach where we’ll work collaboratively to develop personalised tools and techniques to improve your mental well-being.
Person Centered
Person-centered therapy is all about you. It's like having a supportive friend who listens without judgment, understands how you feel, and genuinely cares about what you have to say. I aim to create a safe space where you can freely express your thoughts and emotions, without worrying about being criticised or told what to do. I'll help you explore your feelings and ideas, guiding you to find your own solutions and strengths. It's a journey where you're in the driver's seat, and I am there to walk alongside you, offering support and understanding every step of the way.
Psychodynamic - Relational
The relational psychodynamic approach is like exploring the roots of a tree to understand its growth. It's about looking at your past relationships and experiences to uncover patterns that might be affecting your present life. In therapy, you'll talk about your thoughts, feelings, and memories, paying close attention to our dynamics. Together, we'll explore how past relationships have shaped your current way of relating to others and yourself. Through this process, you'll gain insight into your emotions, behaviours, and motivations, paving the way for deeper self-understanding and healthier connections with others.
